" Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) will introduce legislation within the next few days to protect the Boy Scouts from unfair discrimination because of its policies on homosexuals and atheists. Senator Frist’s legislation will be aimed at assuring that Boy Scouts are guaranteed equal access to public facilities, forums, and programs. “The Boy Scouts depend on equal access to public facilities and participation in public programs and forums. This legislation I’ll be introducing ensures that the Boy Scouts are treated fairly by guaranteeing their right to equal access to public facilities, forums, and programs,” said Sen. Frist. TVC will have more details on this legislation once it’s formally introduced.I must say I'm ashamed that I was ever part of the scouts and that I'm ashamed at what they are. They don't directly teach young boys this homophobic and religiously zealotous tripe, but they run on its fumes, which is bad enough. However, I must say that as far as this goes, I think it's *gulp* fair. The Boy Scouts get no government funding, which is a surprise to me, but they don't. Therefore, they can't be forced to adhere to any sort of openness based on sexual preference, race, religion or anything else. They're free to be jerks and discriminate all they like, and public land is public land, so they should be allowed access to it. Now, if this legislation did something like force United Way to fund them anyway or something crazy like that, obviously I'd be against it, but as it stands now The Boy Scouts should have as much access to public facilities as anyone else.
