I don't want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub.

CNN Article
"In documents obtained by CNN, Pentagon and State Department plans detail an invasion of Sealand, a small island "nation" in the Atlantic Ocean. The invasion is to be coordinated along with Great Britain, who originally held claim on the small island.

Sealand's sovereignty is not recognized officially by many governments. It exists in a small area called Roughs Tower which, according to Sealand's website, is "an island fortress created in World War II by Britain and subsequently abandoned to the jurisdiction of the High Seas."
There have been challenges to Sealand's sovereignty since 1968, and though there has been a lull in problems over the last few decades, Britain has now decided that due to recent activities by the claimants to the land, action must be taken.

Sealand's website is here. According to its own website, Sealand hosts an Internet colocation service known as HavenCo. HavenCo provides this service to almost anyone who can pay for it, sort of like a Swiss bank account for data. According to the HavenCo website, material that is not allowed is defined as material that is unlawful in the jurisdiction of the server. For instance, if a customer's machine is hosted on Sealand by HavenCo, content which is illegal in Sealand may not be published or housed on that server. Sealand's laws prohibit child pornography. Sealand currently has no regulations regarding copyright, patents, libel, restrictions on political speech, non-disclosure agreements, cryptography, restrictions on maintaining customer records, tax or mandatory licensing, DMCA, music sharing services, or other issues; child pornography is the only content explicitly prohibited. At the present time, child pornography is not precisely defined; HavenCo is obeying rules similar to those of the United States, specifically a prohibition on any depiction of those under 18 in a sexual context.

Notice that there is no restriction on terrorist communications? Yeah, well apparently the U.S. and Britain noticed that too, hence the invasion. That's right, as part of the growing "War on Terror," Sealand will be invaded and re-integrated into British territory on April 1, 2005. It's doubtful the island will be able to put up much of a fight, and though it's likely that there will be no violence unless it's provoked, this is a pretty interesting situation. I'll be watching this situation to see what happens.

UPDATE: Oh, April Fool's, by the way. Sealand is real, however. So is HavenCo. Just the invasion is fake.
