If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual gay sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything. All of those things are antithetical to a healthy, stable, traditional family and that's sort of where we are in today's world, unfortunately. It all comes from, I would argue, the right to privacy that doesn't exist, in my opinion, in the United States Constitution.

Dirty Greek - OMG! Liberal Media Has Silenced Cookie Monster!

Cookie Monster is cutting down on his addiction. In a move that I think is probably intelligent, he's changing his song from "C is for cookie" to "Cookies are a sometimes food." Actually, I think changing the song is silly, because "cookie" does indeed start with a C. I don't think helping kids spell "cookie" will make them eat too many more of them.

I don't think it's a bad idea for the big CM to be a little more healthy, though. Some folks are taking this way too hard, but I guess that's to be expected. However, I think freaking out and cursing the "liberal media" for this, rather than thinking about it, is completely unhelpful. I mean, look at this comic:

You know, having cookie monster try to teach responsibility isn't supposed to be a SUBSTITUTE for what parents are supposed to teach, it's a supplement. If you let your kids be raised by tv, we have a way bigger problem than whether the cookie monster eats celery sometimes. Also, those other two characters are advertisers. Cookie monster eats generic cookies. The comparison is moot, as is the anger over the situation.

I've been seeing people talk about this as being "overly PC," but I fail to see what this has to do with politics or "political correctness" at all. First off, he still eats cookies. He just balances them with healthy food. Would that everyone in the world did that. Second, it's not about being "PC." If you haven't noticed, a LARGE portion of children are overweight. Don't you think their role models should teach them to be healthy?
"We estimate that 22 million of the world's children under 5 are overweight or obese," said Mary Bellizzi, an expert with the International Obesity Task Force who presented the research to health ministers at the meeting.
...
The organization estimates that 300 million people worldwide are obese and 750 million more are overweight.

In the United States, some 60 percent of adults are overweight or obese, as are nearly 13 percent of children.

The obesity task force estimates that in some countries, more than 30 percent of the children are obese.

In Egypt more than 25 percent of 4-year-olds are fat and that obesity rates are also more than 25 percent among children aged between 4 and 10 in Chile, Peru and Mexico.
If you don't think that might be a good reason for the cookie monster to *cut back* on cookies (not stop eating them), then I just don't know what to say. Another good point from Right Wing Religious Wacko:
"Perhaps these children should not be in front of the television to begin with. Get them outside playing, expending energy. Parents are the biggest role models - who has seen an obese child with parents who are not obese themselves? Probably NEVER.
Indeed. I don't know about NEVER, but I'd say most of the time obese children have obese parents. That's obviously got some genetic reasons, but I'm sure that's not all.
"These people need to chill out. I say, what's the big deal? Anyone who has ever watched Cookie Monster tear through a batch of chocolate chip cookies can tell you that he's not putting a single calorie into his blue, furry body. Those cookies simply hit the back of his throatless Muppet mouth and end up crumbling all over the floor. If you think about it, he's actually the poster monster for anorexia. If the producers of Sesame Street want to set a healthy example for children, Cookie Monster should really start singing "S is for swallowing, that's good enough for me.
Leave it to a redhead to make that point! It's a good one, though.

Did I just write that much about the cookie monster? Hey, give me a break, it's a slow day at work.
