People will listen when they're ready to listen and not before. Probably, once upon a time, you weren't ready to listen to an idea than now seems to you obvious, even urgent. Let people come to it in their own time. Nagging or bullying will only alienate them. Don't preach. Don't waste time with people who want to argue. They'll keep you immobilized forever. Look for people who are already open to something new.

Red State, Blue State - Tom Tomorrow has some comments about John Tierney's column about "Red Staters and Blue Staters." The thing is, though, that no one ever seems to point out that the whole red state/blue state thing is a farce.

I got all of these maps here, by the way. Anyway, my point is that there is no such thing as a complete red state or blue state, it's mainly rural vs. urban and coastal vs. inland, and even that isn't a good way of putting it.
