Thursday night we watched a sea turtle hatching at Holden Beach, NC. The turtles are endangered, so volunteers mark and watch the nests and help the babies to sea when they hatch.
It's pretty amazing that the hatchlings know to head right to sea, but they require help in populated areas where artificial light confuses them. They usually use the moon as a guide.
