Hmmmm:Research by an acclaimed US psychologist suggests that 80 per cent of men who are homophobic have secret homosexual feelings.
This finding lends scientific support to the long-standing speculation that those who shout the loudest against homosexuality have something to hide.
The research results were published in the prestigious journal of Abnormal Psychology, with the backing of the American Psychological Association.
In tests conducted by Prof. Henry E Adams of the University of Georgia, homophobic men who said they were exclusively heterosexual were shown gay sex videos.
Four out of five became sexually aroused by the homoerotic imagery, as recorded by a plethysmograph . . . a calibrated band fitted around the penis, which measures any enlargement. Rick Santorum, I'm looking in your direction!
Here's the original study, but it's from 1996. I guess maybe it was just now published.
By the way, there's apparently an "Index of Homophobia" published in 1980 by Hudson and Ricketts which is what this guy went by, so it would appear that Adams is talking about the clinical homophobia - acutal fear of homosexuals - not people who hate gays.. Just for clarification. So while it would be funny if it were true, it just doesn't make sense if he was saying that men who were raised to hate gays are 80% likely to be gay themselves because of it or anything. It'll be spun that way, but that's not what the study shows.
