This is interesting. Basically, this guy got his Ph.D. from Rhode Island in the geosciences. However, he's a creationist. He believes the earth is 6,000 years old, man and dinosaurs walked the earth simultaneously, etc. However, he simply wrote his thesis and went through his boards by just telling them what they wanted to hear. What do you guys think should happen in situations like this? It's difficult to say that you should deny a student his degree if he learns and can work with everything you're teaching him, even if he thinks it's a lie, you know? But isn't it scientifically dishonest for him to do so?
Today he teaches earth science at Liberty University, the conservative Christian institution founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell.
Is it wrong for the university to award him a degree, knowing (I'd assume) that he was lying about whether he believed what he was saying?
