You must ultimately find the place where you can be most effective, and this will inevitably be in doing what you're best at. In other words, no one is 'good at' saving the world; one is good at music or painting or writing or politics or science--and any of these can put one in a position to make a contribution toward saving the world.

Tonight I watched the Biography Channel's Saddam Hussein Bio. I was interested to see how the show would describe America's role in Iraq's invasion of Iran in 1980.

Biography.com's description of the Iraq-Iran conflict:
"
In 1979, Saddam assumed the presidency of Iraq. That same year, he led Arab opposition to the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt. Under Saddam’s direction, Iraq invaded Iran in 1980 in an attempt to gain control of the Strait of Hormuz. The attack led to a war of attrition, during which Saddam quelled a Kurdish uprising by the widespread use of chemical weapons.
That's the story that the show gave, as well. Notice what's missing? How about America's gargantuan role in funding and arming Saddam for this conflict?
"He will keep talking all the way back to 1989, to the famous meeting on December 20, 1983 in Baghdad with his friend Donald Rumsfeld, now Pentagon chief. The fuzzy photo of Rumsfeld eagerly shaking hands with Saddam Hussein, observed by foreign minister Tarik Aziz - which simply vanished from corporate media - will be one of the stars of the trial. Rumsfeld was sent by then president Ronald Reagan to mend relations between the US and Iraq only one month after Reagan had adopted a secret directive - still partly classified - to help Saddam fight the Islamic revolution in Iran. Saddam will detail how this close cooperation led to Washington selling loads of military equipment and also chemical precursors, insecticides, aluminum tubes, missile components and anthrax to him. Of course he will be condemned for using the lot to gas Iranian soldiers and then civilian Kurds in Halabja, northern Iraq, in 1988. But he will also prove that the selling of these chemical weapons was organized by Rumsfeld.
Of course, I should have expected all of this from a station which, right before the show, advertised a Ronald Reagan video box-set - a commercail which called Ronnie "one of America's most loved and cherished Presidents" - failing to mention, of course, the Iran Contra Affair.
