I don't want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub.

... and the last 4 were just recently murdered for their horns. I hope that poacher is proud.
The last four northern white rhinoceros remaining in the wild are feared to have been killed for their horns by poachers and are now believed to be extinct in the wild. Only a few are left in captivity but they are difficult to breed and the number is so low that the species is regarded as biologically unviable.
More here. These animals follow in the footsteps of their Cetacean cousins, the Baiji (Yangtze River Dolphin) who were confirmed extinct last year.

Both the Baiji and the Rhino were both featured in Douglas Adams' radio show and book "Last Chance To See," where he visited and discussed endangered species such as these. Another Chance To See, a blog dedicated to species conservation and the memory of Douglas' efforts, notes that some of the other species he visited are still ok. 40 Kakapo chicks may hatch in 2009, and they're trying to raise money for 720 Mountain Gorillas that are left. $30,000 has been raised for our relatives by another charity already.
