The earth I tread on is not a dead, inert mass. It is a body, has a spirit, is organic, and fluid to the influence of its spirit, and to whatever particle of that spirit is in me. She is not dead, but sleepeth.
- Henry David Thoreau

We did some landscape work at the house to day. Mom-in-law brought us some plants from her house and took Anna to the store to get some more for her birthday. While there, Anna got me some blueberry and blackberry plants I'd been eying. After I got through planting them, though (and I had already planted some grape vines a few weeks ago) mom-in-law pointed out that I have grape vines all over my back fence. I hadn't even considered that was what they were, but alas, yep. They're everywhere. Also, we have wild blackberries in 2 or 3 spots of the back yard. Pretty exciting, but I feel like a chump now for paying for stuff that was already growing. Showing my amateurishness.

I also planted the heirloom beans in the front, up against the house. When (assuming a positive outcome) they start to grow, I'll put up the trellis.

All in all, a fun but backbreaking day. Ah, home ownership.
