Point your guns in the opposite direction. You have far more in common with us than with those you’re protecting, and you have more to fear from them than from us. Fire your tear gas and rubber bullets at those who partition the planet, who try to tell us everything can be bought and sold, everything belongs to those who have money, everything belongs to those in power, everything belongs to them.

Orcinus talks a bit here about some recent domestic terrorism situations, all of which (luckily) were thwarted before they could be carried out. However, there's something about these cases that make them interesting.

They never get referred to as "terrorism." A Texas cyanide bomb case, some abortion clinic bombing attempts, and some nutcase trying to shoot up a Jewish school have all been reported, though without fanfare and without being labelled as "terrorism."

Now, were I the reporter, a story about a guy threatening to blow up a bus with a black driver while yelling a racial slur would definitely be enough for me to use the word. But, as Orcinus points out, all these cases involved Americans.

You know, I was joking around with a friend of mine the other day, because she said something not patriotic, and I sarcastically called her a terrorist. Her response was "Oh right, I'm a blonde, blue-eyed terrorist." Now... I know this is only one instance, but how well does it speak for the American view of terrorists? It certainly looks as though that's the Bush administration's manner of thinking.
