So I went to Raleigh yesterday to see Ralph Nader speak. As I said before, I like the guy, and I'd vote for him if it wasn't for the current situation. However, I'm too interested in getting Bush out of office and, even though North Carolina will invariably vote Republican because of the electoral college, I'm still going to vote for Kerry to ensure that my vote isn't wasted.
However, there a few points that Ralph made that I should point out to those of you who are on the fence about who to vote for.
1.) Nader didn't steal the election from Gore in 2000, Bush did. Gore won the popular vote. That's a very important point.
2.) If you're rallying against the two-party system, there's no better way to make your point than to vote for a third-party candidate.
3.) In many states where polls have come out, the percentage of Republican and Independent voters who said they'd vote for Ralph is higher than the percentage of Democratic voters, which means that it's likely that there are more people in those parties who are sick of Bush but don't want to vote Democrat than there are people who would normally vote Democrat but will vote for Nader instead.
At any rate, I have some videos from the talk. The first one is of Nader condemning the war, which you can watch here.
The second, in which he mentions that the concentration of power is too high, can be found here.
In the third video, he explains what he wants from America's voters.
In the fourth, he talks about the irony of Bush allowing jobs to be moved to China.
Finally, in the fifth, he mentions what our forebears had to go through to get fair conditions.
The guy would make a great president, I just can't vote for him this time. But, if you want to, go for it.
