Master Shake told me to go in the freezer because there was a carnival in there. There was no carnival, it was a damn freezer! I got freezer burn, and I got mushed up against that chicken.

Dirty Greek - To draft or not to draft?

So, I keep hearing from people that the evidence of a soon-reinstated military draft is false. They say that a new draft is not imminent, and the reorganizing of the draft board and the hiring of draft board employees is just an efficiency strategy.

That's all well and good, and it may be true, but this article says that according to a recently published government report, steps are being taken toward a "targeted military draft of Americans with special skills in computers and foreign languages." Richard Flahavan, a spokesman for the Selective Service System, confirms this fact.

Also, Army Gen. John Abizaid, head of the Central Command says that more troops are needed in Iraq. Not less, even though we've been told that they're trying to decrease the numbers... but more.
"Abizaid asked the Joint Chiefs of Staff for the equivalent of two brigades, or 7,000 to 10,000 troops - "if not more." The request came less than a week after military officials began extending the one-year tours of an unspecified number of the roughly 20,000 troops who were preparing to leave Iraq.

U.S. officials had hoped to draw down the troop number to 110,000 this spring as the coalition prepares to hand over authority to a still-unnamed interim Iraqi government on June 30. Instead, the Pentagon now is planning to have as many as 140,000 American troops in Iraq if the new units arrive soon, or 120,000 if the soldiers now pulling extended duties are allowed to leave in a few months, defense officials said.
So, you can tell me all you want that there isn't a draft coming up, but I won't believe you. And if there is indeed a draft on its way, Ralph Nader and I will be opposed.
