Honor of honors, joy of joys - and I thought that Janene Garofolo's interview with Space Ghost was amazing. On Friday night, Howard Zinn made his way onto commercial radio for a lengthy and in-depth interview. Majority Report interviewed Zinn, and what America gained from this interview is not actually measurable. However, judging from the response on the MR message boards, I'd say that he made a huge impact.
Zinn's critique of Kerry is less than positive. As far as Kerry's idea of sending more troops to Iraq, he calls it "the definition of fanaticism." Zinn added: "It’s going to be hard for the American people to distinguish the two on the war." He has, however, said that we should get rid of Bush first. "We should be critical of Kerry," we should, "sure, vote for him."
He sums up Kerry's Presidency in a really great way and, in a way that made me swoon in a way that a straight guy shouldn't swoon over an 81 year old man, said| "For like five seconds, be willing to put your principles aside... and yes, we want to get rid of Bush, number 1 priority... The only reason I would vote for Kerry is to finally have a little ledge to stand on. If Kerry is elected, we will have a tiny ledge to stand on, whereas with Bush, there is nothing to stand on... Presidents can be moved by their constituencies. |
This is what I've been saying. Kerry is the first step in our quest for freedom, but he's sure as hell not the last.| "But I think Kerry should know that he is not getting as much enthusiastic support as he might. Yeah sure, we'll vote for him, but doesn't he want people to really work for him enthusiastically? If he wants people to work for him enthusiastically, he needs to distance himself from "Bush's War." And I think there's still time for him to do that... Guns, bombs, occupation force... that's not going to bring any security of democracy to Iraq. |
I'm entranced by this old man. By the way, he looks pretty dangerous, eh?
You can get the interview here. It's in MP3 format, and the Zinn interview starts at about 26:00 into the show.
By the way, I'm getting these Air America archives from Air America Place.
