George W. Bush was the greatest idea that the United States government elite ever had.
By electing Bush as President, the elite has gained significant ground. Not only have they gained from the political help he's given them, but they've also gained by furthering the idea that our current system is ok as it stands. Bare with me here:
George Bush's presidency and the circus that preceded it have made the nation even less interested in allowing a third party or independent candidate into office - especially into the White House and likely any other office as well. Not only that, but it's given the elite in the Democratic party even more steam in shouting down the Ralph Naders and making it look like anyone who votes for them is going to help Bush get back into office. The Democratic party is actively fighting Nader's candidacy, even as they tell us that they are trying to "win back our democracy."
It's all some sort of sick joke, but it's worked exactly in their favor. Of course, it's also helped the Republican party in its own ways, but the significant difference is that less and less people are realizing that there is little difference between the two ruling parties in American government. This worries me, and it should worry you.
Perhaps it's true that John Kerry is the best vote this November, simply because it's ridiculous to think that the electoral college would even dream of dreaming of dreaming of allowing Nader even 1 electoral vote. However, there is NOT a significant difference in the parties, and I think that it's possible a Kerry presidency will do wonders for the nation's consciousness. Maybe (and I know this is overly positive) the people will finally figure out that just because one rich guy says that he's not as bad as the other rich guy, it doesn't mean he isn't actually as bad. The whole "John Kerry fought for our country with valor in Viet Nam" thing should help people see that these people will do anything to get one of their candidates into office.
Therefore, I am voting for Kerry, but it's not because I agree with him... on basically anything.
