You have an emotional need to look at what's going on inside yourself and in the world around you -- at all the craziness -- and say, "I'm going to be happy anyway. I've made a conscious decision. We either cry or we dance. I've decided to dance."

Dirty Greek - Animals have a 'sixth sense?'

Well, it's a good possibility, but I take issue with what it means if they do.
"JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (Reuters) -- Wild animals seem to have escaped the Indian Ocean tsunami, adding weight to notions they possess a "sixth sense" for disasters, experts said on Thursday.

Sri Lankan wildlife officials have said the giant waves that killed over 24,000 people along the Indian Ocean island's coast seemingly missed wild beasts, with no dead animals found.

"No elephants are dead, not even a dead hare or rabbit. I think animals can sense disaster. They have a sixth sense. They know when things are happening," H.D. Ratnayake, deputy director of Sri Lanka's Wildlife Department, said on Wednesday.
My issue is, basically, what about the "human animal?" We're animals too... why is it that we've lost this sense? We know that other animals can smell and pick up on things that we don't, but why is that? Is it genetic? Have we evolved out of it? I think that we just don't hone those skills anymore.

I mean, humans do emit all sorts of pheromones into the air depending on their mood. We produce the output, we just don't seem to know how to pick up the input anymore.

To put it bluntly, a sixth sense wouldn't be "good for business." In our world, being able to tell if someone's uncomfortable while speaking with you or is sexually attracted to you without having to discuss it in a businesslike manner wouldn't be good for the system. I don't mean to say that anyone's purposely keeping this sense under-wraps, but you do have to admit that we don't try to teach our kids to hone their instincts as much as we teach them to mind their manners and respect authority.

Just a thought.
