Those who are too lazy and comfortable to think for themselves and be their own judges obey the laws. Others sense their own laws within them; thngs are forbidden to them that every honorable man will do any day in the year and other things are allowed to them that are generally despised. Each person must stand on his own feet.

Politics : First 2008 Democratic Debate and Mike Gravel
I was impressed with few of the Democrats in last night's debate. In fact, the only two who really did anything for me were, as usual, the ones who stand no chance whatsoever. This is mainly due to their outspokenness, a quality that every President should have but none ever does. I've loved Dennis Kucinich ever since the last Democratic primary, and I agree with him almost always. He's realistic, he's peaceful, and he's passionate, and that's why he'll never, ever, ever be president. The same, unfortunately, goes for Mike Gravel. Now there's an old man who's decided there's no reason to hold back and tell it like it is. He laid into most of the other Dems last night, and he did so with good reason.

There are some great clips of Gravel from last night on Youtube, and I think this one is my favorite.
Some of these people frighten me... when you have mainline candidates that turn around and say that there's nothing off the table with respect to Iran - that's code for nukes!
It's their country, they're asking us to leave, and we insist on staying there. Why not get out? ... You hear the statement "Well my god, these soldiers will have died in vain." The entire deaths of Vietnam died in vain! And they're dying in vain this very second! And you know what's worse than soldiers dying in vain? Even more soldiers dying in vain. That's what's worse.
Another great clip here, on defense and enemies.
We spend more as a nation on defense than all the rest of the world put together. Who are we afraid of? ... I'm not. ... It is unbelievable. The military industrial complex not only controls our government lock, stock, and barrel, but they control our culture.
Also, to give Kucinich his fair shake, here he is talking about impeaching Cheney.
